Clinical Training: Diabetes: Managing Insulin/ Hospitalized Patients

Describe the mechanism of actions and pathophysiology of insulin and recognize the importance of controlling blood glucose (BG) in hospitalized patients; Evaluate the efficacy of the various forms of insulin and differentiate among those with different pharmacokinetics; Recognize the barriers to effective control of BD in diabetic patients and prescribe the appropriate form of insulin therapy; Analyze reports of the prevalence and consequences of hyperglycemia in hospitalized patients and appropriately diagnose and treat their condition; and Assess the role of sliding scale insulin regimens for treatment of hospitalized patients with diabetes and hyperglycemia.
