Course Description

This program will emphasize new disease management guidelines in various subspecialties; discuss practical issues for primary care physicians; provide updates on current trends in internal medicine; and introduce new therapies and information relative to the treatment of patients. Course format will include lectures, question and answer periods, discussions, workshops, and case presentation sessions.

 

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:

• Discuss treatment options other than insulin for Type II diabetes;

• Evaluate and treat obesity in an office setting;

• Review rationale and current status of emerging therapies for acute coronary syndrome and lipid disorders;

• Define advances in management of heart failure, rheumatoid arthritis, Hepatitis C, and prostate cancer;

• Properly diagnose the most common forms of skin cancer;

• Better assess and treat diverticulitis, fecal incontinence and chronic constipation;

• Better evaluate and manage problems such as allergic rhinitis, COPD, sarcoidosis;

• Identify signs and symptoms of hip fractures in the elderly and upper extremity fractures in athletes;

• Recognize and diagnose depression in adults;

• Assess the risk of potential ocular side effects from commonly used systemic medications.
