Zambia: Adolescent girls in Lusaka, Zambia, who doubt that smoking is harmful to their health, are more likely to have smoked, according to a study based on the 2002 Global Youth Tobacco Survey. Exposure to pro-tobacco ads and positive perception towards smoking were also associated with girls having smoked cigarettes. Overall prevalence for those who have smoked was 43.4% among boys, and 35.6% among girls. For both sexes, having a parent or close friends who smoked increased the incidence of smoking.
